The grass grows well when the water goes down in level. Therefore avoiding the rainy season will be the best season for this tour. On the other hand most of the jeeps are opened tops where you can enjo the cool blowing and observe the surrounding well. The day I visited and had a safari was a sunny day with the tank water levels reducing gradually. There were more than hundred elephants in small groups with babies different sizes among them. It was a beautiful site to observe their habitat,, feeding habits etc. Also the large packs of migrating birds in water pockets were another beautiful site to watch in this tour. As the entire tour may take few hours, it would be wise to carry your drinking water and a snack with you. If the jeep driver and your guide are good and friendly , they would be of no hurry and take all efforts to locate the areas where there are elephants, by communicating with other jeep drivers who had taken off before them. Most of the jeep crews are very helpful and help each other in locating elephant heard. If you are a bird watcher , it would be best to carry a bird guide book with you as you may come across many specious of birds inside the Minneriya park apart from elephants. Most of the guides are well experienced and knowledgeable. Therefore if you show them that you are interested to find facts about elephants, they would be very helpful to explain details about these wonderful animals. As you are not permitted to get off the jeep except at selected locations, it would be advisable to adhere to the instructions or the guidance given by your guide and the jeep driver. Make sure that your camera is ready with adequate space available in your memory cards and the batteries are fully charged, to avoid disappointment. carrying a cap or a safari hat along with a sunscreen will be an additional advantage for you inside the forest.

  I don't know if it's because we were so lucky or if it's the time of the year that helped us, but we saw so many elephants there!!! Just awesome... read more for everyone! Our guide was charming and very respectful to the environment and animals. Just loved this experience! (I've been in Serengeti, Ngorongoro Tanzania and Ethosha in Namibia).
